Typically, when I am eating a special way (I don't want to say 'diet'.), I am really bad on the weekends. I say to myself crap like, "I have been good all week, this taqutio from Whataburger is no biggie." Which wouldn't be so bad except that it usually spills over to every single meal.
I had a pretty successful low-carb weekend! I stuck to it completely Friday and Saturday.
Sunday, we went to the Ft. Worth Zoo for a little family time. I brought a Questbar, so while T was snacking on gold fish and fruit snacks, I ate that. Obviously, we walked almost the whole two hours we were there- and T pretty much wanted to be carried the whole time. Andy and I would switch out, so I packed my 30lb toddler around at least half of the time. When we left, we were hungry for some lunch. When we spotted Torchy's Tacos, a place I have been dying to try- I didn't feel bad about allowing myself to indulge just a little. I ate one taco, the Trailer Park. It was AMAZING- it had a piece of fried chicken, queso, pico and cheese on it. I also had some chips and queso- probably some of the best queso I have ever had. When we went to dinner at my parents' house, I was right back on the wagon. My dad made his amazing beans and potato salad, and I didn't have a single bite. I had grilled sausage and pickles for dinner. AND my mom made BROWNIES- I enjoyed a spoonful of peanut butter instead.
T's favorite thing at the zoo was the Primate House. They had a little monkey nursery, and one of the parent monkeys was playing with a younger monkey by pretending to eat it's toes. I told T, "Look, he is eating his toe cheese!" That was the first exhibit we looked at, and T asked to go back the rest of the time we were there. He kept saying things like, "I want to go back to the monkey house. They eat toe cheese. It's so gwoss!" He also kind of fell in love with the gorillas. We bought him a baby gorilla in the gift shop. I keep asking him what the gorilla's name is, and he keeps informing me that it is "Gorilla." :) When we got home, I gave him an old cabbage patch baby bottle I had laying around (intending to put back with the Cabbage Patch from my childhood I still have somewhere...). So he has been feeding his baby gorilla chocolate milk.
That kid has such a precious heart- just like his daddy. I love that he loves the zoo, just like me. We have taken him a couple of times before, but this is the first time that he really 'got' it. It was such a great day!!
